3 simple steps to redesigning a room

Sometimes a change will do you good. Whether it’s to usher in a new season, to make an area more practical and useful, or you’re simply feeling bored, there’s no bad reason to redesign a space in your home. But where to start? Our Jones Company design expert, Jen Chapman, has shared her top three tips to simplify the process and make redesigning your spaces effortless.

Step 1: Choose a cohesive theme

The possibilities are broad, but to help narrow it down, do this: focus on a theme that will mesh with the current design found throughout your home.
That’s not to say you can’t do something a bit different than the other spaces in your home, but tie it all together by choosing complimentary colors and textures that are in the same family as the hues found elsewhere. If you have mostly neutrals throughout your home, choose a neutral in the same family for your new space. If you prefer jewel tones or more saturated colors, pick a palette that brings out the best of the rest of your house.

Step 2: Accessorize

You might be feeling like your space is looking a bit outdated, and that’s why you’re looking to do a redesign. But before you make a complete overhaul; remember that updated accessories and small decor items can go a long way in making your space feel fresh.

The best part? You don’t need to shell out a lot of cash. A new throw blanket, pillows, or lamps can make a space instantly look brand new again. Look for pieces with the personality you want to express. Funky, artistic pieces will add a playful air, while classic, understated accessories will create a sophisticated atmosphere.

Step 3: Consider focusing on organization above all else

It’s natural to feel frustrated with a space because of the amount of “stuff” it has. Could this be the culprit in your room?

The way to fix this is with smart organization choices. Everyday living can easily clutter up a room, especially when you have a family to care for. Create designated spaces for specific items to keep things tidy and organized. Use interesting decor pieces, like fancy baskets, antique trunks, and well-crafted cubbies to create organization without making the space look clinical. Sometimes, that’s all you need to make an old space feel new again!

We hope these tips are helpful when it comes to redesigning your space. Just remember, it doesn’t always mean a huge overhaul. By following these simple tips, you’ll be well on your way to creating a space that feels brand new. Not sure how you want to redesign your space?
