For many families, another big consideration is where their children will go to school. This major decision can have long term impacts, which is why so many families their school district research prior to making a move.

Luckily, for families looking in the Nashville area, there are a lot of great school district choices. Let’s look at some of the top districts in the Nashville area, and what makes them worth your consideration.

Williamson:

You can’t get much better than a 10 out of 10, and that’s the rating the Williamson Country School District gets on GreatSchools.org. This rapidly growing district serves nearly 40,000 students across 44 schools, with several more slated to open in the coming years. Three of the high schools within this district were even ranked by Newsweek on a list of the top 1,000 public schools in the entire country!

It’s motto is “Rigor – Relevance – Relationships – Relentlessness,” and it puts those core values to work throughout it’s challenging academic curriculum and rich extracurricular opportunities.  They boast exceptionally high attendance and graduation rates across all levels, and don’t stop with students: their teachers and staff have ample opportunities for professional development too. All elementary schools offer before and after school care opportunities, and every school is accredited by AdvancEd, the nation’s largest academic accrediting agency.

Rutherford:

With a GreatSchools rating of 8, Rutherford County School District is one of the top districts in the entire state, and they consistently outpace national benchmarks too. They serve more than 43,000 students, and have opened numerous new schools while renovating existing ones in the last several years.

One way Rutherford stands out is it’s rich career and technical education programs, which include focused education in areas ranging from manufacturing and technology to hospitality and tourism. They’re also known for their well rounded fine arts curriculum, giving students at every age an opportunity to explore their creative talents.

Wilson:

Located east of Nashville in the Lebanon area, Wilson County School District is the 9th largest district in the state, and is ranked in the top 10 of all districts in Tennessee. One area where this district stands out is athletics; they’re ranked 6 out of 110 districts as a “best school district for athletes.”

Graduation rates consistently exceed 95 percent, and many graduating students go on to attend Tennessee Technological University and, as you might expect, the University of Tennessee. Like Rutherford, they offer a comprehensive career technical program to equip students for the up and coming technology careers of the future.
